Judge Jim Murphy, the Saratoga County Court judge for the past 9 years, and county district attorney for 25 years before that, is apparently leaving public service.
State law prohibits judges from commenting to the news media, so NewsChannel 13 is unable to confirm directly with Judge Murphy, but a news conference has been scheduled for Thursday by Murphy’s court attorney, Adele Kurtz. Kurtz is expected to announce that she’s running to succeed her current boss when his term expires at the end of 2024.
Murphy, who is 63, and a native of Saratoga Springs, has presided over dozens of high-profile cases, including the current Moreau Lake State Park kidnapping and the murder trial of Georgios Kakavelos.
