FIRST ON 13: Video shows altercation between DOT worker and driver
New York State Department of Transportation worker William Barbour was directing traffic at a construction site on Wednesday. Things were normal until video showed a driver getting out of his truck and appearing to hit Barbour.
That DOT worker then fought back, the driver than began screaming at the DOT worker. That driver then got back into his vehicle and drove off.
The incident happened on Crescent Fisher Road just of Exit 8 on the Northway.
“This gentleman in the truck decided that he felt he was more entitled to wait than anybody else. He physically pull in front of cars that were going in the one direction. Come running right towards me. And I have the sign out saying, you know, stop. I have traffic coming,” said Barbour.
Barbour described the moments when that driver got out of his truck.
“He come running up at me. I mean, spit coming out of his mouth and everything. And then he come up to me and he got right at my face, and he just came up with a punch like that, a right-hand punch to the side. Why? You know, you couldn’t wait that few minutes,” Barbour said.
The driver didn’t realize it was just one lane when he pulled out of the McDonald’s, a witness told NewsChannel 13.
“The guy tried to reverse to go around him. And then he finally got around him. And then the flagger actually threw the flag at him. And then it shattered underneath his truck,” said the witness.
“He actually hit the pole, the one time and then he backed up and just hammered it just, you know, tires were spinning. And so, I went off to my side. I dropped the sign. He ran over the sign,” Barbour said.
