Former Amsterdam charged in fatal crash, accused of driving drunk.

Amsterdam Police have arrested a man for allegedly causing a fatal crash while under the influence.

Lisandro Garcia, 42, crashed on Oct. 25, 2022, on Northampton Road near Wilkes Avenue. Evelyn Y. Morales, 30, was killed.

Amsterdam Police received the final report of findings from the New York State Police accident reconstruction team, last month. The report contained on-scene interviews, review of surveillance footage, a search of the vehicle and a toxicology analysis.

Garcia was found in Florida. He turned himself in and waived his extradition back to New York.

Garcia, who has moved to the state of Florida since the accident, was charged with felony counts of manslaughter and assault and misdemeanors of driving while ability impaired by drugs and aggravated unlicensed operation.

He is also facing charges for allegedly speeding, not wearing his seat belt, and operating an uninspected vehicle with no insurance and no registration.

Garcia was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and sent to Montgomery County Jail without bail.

The Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office assisted police with the investigation.
