Former Cohoes man accused of killing infant offered plea deal of 15-20 years in prison
Prosecutors have offered a plea deal of 15 to 20 years in prison for the former Cohoes man accused of killing a baby before allegedly going on the run to Mexico.
Anthony Ojeda, 42, appeared in Albany County Court on Friday. He would be required to plead guilty to first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of 6-week-old of Baby Eli in 2019.
Ojeda will respond to the offer when he returns to court on Aug. 30.
The baby died on Dec. 3, 2019. Investigators said he had injuries to his ribs and head and toxic levels of methamphetamine in his system.
Ojeda was charged with murder in June 2021. Ojeda was released under the supervision of probation. Then, he and his husband, Neil Garzon, left town before being caught by U.S. Marshals in January, police said.
