Former server at Saratoga Springs restaurant says tips were mishandled

A former server at a high-end restaurant in Saratoga Springs is alleging the restaurant gave a percentage of tips to management and underpaid tipped workers.

A former server at a high-end restaurant in Saratoga Springs is alleging the restaurant gave a percentage of tips to management and underpaid tipped workers.

The restaurant is called 15 Church.

In a 34-page lawsuit, that former server, named Candace Slaven, said the restaurant required servers, bartenders and bussers to pool tips.

The suit alleges, different amounts of that pool were given to employees like management, administrative staff and more – all employees who are not legally allowed to receive tips.

The suit makes several pay-related allegations, including that 15-Church used tips to pay for any cash shortages, and that front of house staff was underpaid for overtime.

NewsChannel 13 left a message with 15 Church for a comment on the lawsuit. We have not yet heard back.

The lawsuit was first reported by the Times Union.
