The village of Fort Edward is now in the process of dissolving the police department.
The resolution was discussed at a public hearing on Monday night, reported NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Post-Star.
The move was expected and follows high rates of officer retention, said the city.
Village residents have the next 30 days to petition the board’s decision, and establish a public vote. If they don’t, the police department will break up by early March.
If dissolved, the village will be covered by the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, for 20 hours a day, reported the paper.
