FULTON, N.Y. (WNYT)- Daniel Grinmanis, 35, from Fulton was arrested after State Police say he entered a home through a basement window and held the resident against their will.

State Police said they received a call around 10:56 a.m. April 24 from the resident saying Grinmanis, who was known to them, came to the home and was refusing to leave. Grinmanis left the home before troopers arrived.

A 911 hang-up call was made from the home later that day around 4 p.m. Police said Grinmanis returned to the home once troopers left the area that morning, forcing his way into the basement using a crowbar.

When the resident tried to leave, Grinmanis allegedly choked them, holding them against their will. The resident was able to make the 911 hang-up call.

Grinmanis tried to flee troopers once they arrived but with help from the Schoharie County Sheriff’s Office, State Police say he was taken into custody following a foot pursuit.

An order of protection against Grinmanis protecting the resident was discovered by State Police during the course of their investigation.

Grinmanis was taken to an area hospital for a medical and mental health evaluation then taken to the Schoharie County Correctional Facility to await arraignment.
