Gillibrand: 3,000 illegal guns seized nationwide
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced more than 3,000 guns were seized across the country in the last three years in New York.
U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced more than 3,000 guns were seized across the country in the last three years.
She said 250 guns are now off New York streets thanks to the Anti-Gun Trafficking Statute.
It’s a part of the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act.
“Eighty percent of guns connected to crimes and recovered by law enforcement in New York come from out of state,” Gillibrand said. “We’re getting these guns out of our communities and putting dangerous arms dealers behind bars.”
“I anticipate many more gun seizures, arrests and convictions as a result of the statute in the years to come,” she added.
The statute has been used to charge more than 423 defendants across the country, Gillibrand said.
