Glens Falls honors ‘City of Champions’ with parade
The city of Glens Falls on Sunday held a “City of Champions” parade to honor three state championships.
The parade honored the Glens Falls boys basketball teams for back-to-back state titles, the Adirondack United girls ice hockey team, and Forrest Slinglerland for winning the Nordic Ski State Championship.
The parade started at Glens Falls High School, and then went down Glen Street through the center of Glens Falls. Police vehicles and firetrucks gave the teams an escort. The teams came through with balloons on each truck. Slingerland was riding with his pairs of skis, and the basketball and the hockey team’s float was covered with signs.
The parade ended inside with a ceremony at The Queensbury Hotel. Glens Falls City School District Athletic Director Shane Jones said he couldn’t be more proud of his athletes this year.
“It was incredible. I mean, any time you have three teams in the same season, all win a state championship, that’s extraordinary. As an athletic director, you dream of just seeing one team in your career win state championship and have back-to-back winner seasons where you’re celebrating three state championships. It’s surreal.”
Dozens of people came out to watch, and the ceremony was standing room only.
