Van Patten’s entire life savings and retirement funds were wiped out after a con man falsely promised to renovate her home.
Chad Nichols, of Ballston Spa, gutted Van Patten’s kitchen, deck, and two bathrooms at her Guilderland home. He never finished the job.
Nichols was arrested, charged, and convicted in Albany County Court on grand larceny charges and criminal impersonation.
Van Patten’s GoFundMe goal is $18,000.
