The victim in Saturday’s homicide is identified as Jairo Hernandez-Sanchez. His family is raising money on GoFundMe to honor him and support the daughter he leaves behind.
The family told NewsChannel 13 he was polite and respectful and avoided conflict. He had been working as a landscaper and in a restaurant to provide for his family.
He was the father of a one-year-old daughter, according to the GoFundMe post.
The family is raising money to honor him in Troy with loved ones and friends, then take his body to Mexico, where his parents live.
Hernandez-Sanchez’s life was cut short Saturday, when he was fatally stabbed in the middle of the afternoon near River and Douw streets.
Carlos Corrales-Ramirez stabbed Hernandez-Sanchez with a large knife, according to court papers obtained by NewsChannel 13.
A Troy police spokesman told NewsChannel 13 they were unavailable for an interview on Tuesday.
Troy Police confirm Corrales-Ramirez is from Honduras, and was in the United States illegally. He had been wanted for a daytime stabbing that took place in Maryland in February.
He was arrested by Border Patrol in March near New York’s border with Canada.
He was turned over to the New York State Police to be sent to Maryland to face those charges, Border Patrol said. He was last known to be in the Clinton County Correctional Facility awaiting extradition, according to State Police.
NewsChannel 13 is working to learn more. This is a developing story.
