Great Barrington seeks to dismiss ex-teacher’s lawsuit over controversial book

Town wants ex-teacher to drop lawsuit over “Gender Queer” book

The town of Great Barrington wants ex-teacher to drop lawsuit over "Gender Queer" book.

The town of Great Barrington is asking a federal court to dismiss a former teacher’s lawsuit over what was an alleged false claim of an inappropriate book in the classroom.

The former teacher sued because she said her civil rights were violated.

A custodian at the school alleged that the teacher was giving out the book “Gender Queer: A Biography” and telling students not to tell their parents, according to NewsChannel 13’s media partners at The Berkshire Eagle.

After police searched her classroom, the teacher quit her job and sued the district and the town.

The town argues that no First Amendment rights were violated.
