Green Island community awards veterans long overdue honors
A group of 25 veterans was honored in Green Island on Friday for their bravery and sacrifice.
That includes five veterans, all who served between 1939 and 1980, who were honored with honorary diplomas under Operation Recognition.
The program allows veterans to earn high school diplomas if they left school without graduating.
Many of the honorees have passed away, but family members attend the ceremony every year on their behalf.
Several other veterans, including those who fought in World War II and the Vietnam War, were honored during the ceremony with federal and state medals and certificates.
Learn about some of them by watching the video of Caitlin Irla’s story.
