Health department collects samples at senior home with deadly legionnaires’ outbreak
The Department of Health is collecting samples from Peregrine Shaker for testing, after a deadly legionnaires outbreak there.
There are currently 12 confirmed infections and no new fatalities. There are no cases at other assisted living facilities, according to Albany County Department of Health Commissioner Maribeth Miller.
Peregrine installed point-of-use filters in all apartments and common area faucets and showers.
Residents are advised to keep these filters in place and report any clogs. Daily flushing of all faucets and showers continues.
The facility has taken every precaution since learning of the bacterial exposure, they said. Peregrine says water restrictions were put in place before anyone died.
