Hochul helps give out meals at Capital City Rescue Mission
Gov. Kathy Hochul was among the volunteers to help serve Thanksgiving meals at Capital City Rescue Mission.
Hochul said she was happy to join the 100 volunteers at the mission serving around 2,500 meals. She called on New Yorkers to think of those less fortunate than them when sitting down at their Thanksgiving tables.
“We can never forget them. They’re our brothers and sisters, part of our New York family and they deserve our help year round — not just on Thanksgiving,” she said.
Executive Director Perry Jones said it takes about a week and a half to get ready for this event. A thousand pounds of turkey are prepared. In addition to the meals on Thanksgiving, Perry said they will serve another thousand on Friday.
“The homeless and the needy and the broken, they need a place to celebrate too. And this is their celebration point and I’m glad to have every one of them,” he said.
In addition to the volunteers, Jones also thanked the donors for their support.
“Everything that’s happened here is because people in the Capital Region have very generous hearts,” he said.
