New legislation aims to strengthen democracy.
Gov. Kathy Hochul signed a legislative package on Wednesday allowing absentee ballots to be counted if they have been taped and show no sign of tampering.
The other legislation involves creating a “golden day” for voting. The golden day lets New Yorkers register to vote and cast their ballots all on the same day.
It will happen on the first day of the early voting period.
