Hochul weighs in on dock workers strike
Gov. Kathy Hochul is weighing in on the strike by dock workers that has shut down major ports along the East and Gulf Coasts.
Members of the International Longshoremen's Association are picketing from Maine to Texas as they strike over wages and automation issues. The association, which represents 45,000 union workers, and the United States Maritime Alliance were unable to come to an agreement on a new contract.
Hochul said she supports longshoremen and dock workers' right to fair treatment and working conditions.
To New Yorkers, she says they are prepared to keep the Empire State running.
This is the first strike by the union since 1977.
