Homeowner speaks out, warning residents after car theft

Video captured from a neighbor's security footage shows the moment that a man tries to open people's cars.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (WNYT) – On Crescent Street in Saratoga Friday morning a man walked the street trying to break into multiple cars.

In the video above, you can see the man wearing a hoodie and a mask trying to open multiple cars in a homeowner’s driveway.

Unsuccessful in this driveway, the person walks across the street to another person’s driveway successfully opening the door of two cars and stealing what he could find inside.

Bobby Contompasis’s said an iPod, knife, running shoes, and some change were stolen from him. He said it’s a wake-up call to him and residents to stay alert and always lock your car doors.

“It was kind of obvious what had happened right off the jump,” said Contompasis.

He tells NewsChannel 13 that he has kept his car unlocked for 8 years and has never had an issue but said now he will never not lock his doors.

“Keep your lights on at night and keep your cars locked. That’s all I gotta say,” said Contompasis.

Contompasis said he reported the incident to the police but has not heard yet if they have located any suspect.
