Corrales-Ramirez was also wanted in a stabbing in Maryland. He was arrested in Champlain, N.Y. by U.S. Border Patrol agents and turned over to State Police.

Corrales-Ramirez was held in Clinton County Jail for 90 days and then released because he had not been picked up by Maryland authorities.

McLaughlin posted to his Facebook page saying that the incident was an example of the “failures and dangers created by open borders.”

“This is a tragedy that never should have occurred because Carlos Corrales-Ramirez never should have been in the country in the first place,” McLaughlin said in a statement.
