Hoosick Falls Central School District holds first board meeting since recent threat
HOOSICK FALLS, N.Y. (WNYT) – The Hoosick Falls Central School District held its first Board of Education meeting Tuesday night since they received a threat on Friday, September 20.
The threat forced Hoosick Fall Central School to go into lockdown, but the district said that the threat was a swatting incident.
The meeting began with the board reading an email that was posted on their Facebook page last week and then parents spoke to the board on their concerns.
The meeting was under 20 minutes and left parents frustrated with the lack of communication from the board.
“The meeting was, what, 17 minutes, and nothing was answered. There were four or five people that expressed concerns and questions and nothing was answered,” said parent Marissa Harris.
The board has not specified the threat besides calling it a swatting prank, but parents told NewsChannel 13 Tuesday that a student in the high school called and threatened to shoot up the school and then brought a weapon to school.
NewsChannel 13 has been unable to confirm this as the board said they can’t comment because of privacy reasons.
Marissa Harris along with other parents are just frustrated that it has been almost three weeks since this threat and they still don’t have answers.
“They had the threat before 8 a.m, and yet they still unloaded 420 elementary kids. My kids being part of it, to find out that they’ve confiscated a weapon off that kid that was in the school. And I’m supposed to feel safe as a parent to send my kids to school every day now?” Harris said.
Another parent said there’s needs to be more security at the school.
“Everybody knows who Sandy hook is. I do not want Hoosick Falls to be known for something like that happening,” one parent said.
