House fire in Ballston Spa leaves one dead
BALLSTON SPA, N.Y. (WNYT) – A house fire in Ballston Spa Saturday leaves one woman dead.
The house on 809 Greenwood Drive is now left without part of a roof and most of the windows are gone. A sign on the front door of the house said the house is condemned.
The Mayor of Ballston Spa, Frank Rossi, said that firefighters responded to a call just after 5 p.m. Saturday.
“Our ladder truck was actually trying to fight the fire from up above, which was a sign of the fact that they couldn’t use the inside to fight it from inside out,” said Mayor Rossi.
The Mayor told NewsChannel 13 that the firefighters were faced with some challenges and obstacles entering the home. The Mayor is now encouraging everyone to go over their home fire safety plan.
“Make sure there are no obstacles in place in the entry points. And, you know, just go over and make sure everybody’s safe because we don’t want to see this ever happen again,” Mayor Rossi said.
Neighbors said the woman who passed was a nice woman. One person we spoke to was in shock over the loss of a friend. Other neighbors also at a loss for words.
“That’s a shame too, you know, that this happened to her. So, she, I’m sure she had a lot of good years left in her, and she was a pretty healthy woman,” said one neighbor.
Another neighbor told us, “She was a sweet lady. You could always find her out in her yard working on her garden. She took pride in her flowers in her yard.”
“She will be dearly missed. Our hearts and prayers go out to her family,” said the neighbor.
The woman’s identity who lost her life has not been released yet and there is no word yet on the cause of the fire.
