House speaker: 25th Amendment ‘appropriate’ for Biden
House Speaker Mike Johnson says it would be appropriate to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove President Joe Biden from office due to recent concerns over his cognitive health.
In his press briefing Tuesday, the speaker said that the decision to start that process is not in his hands and that Congress is far from acting on it. However, he accused Democrats of attempting to cover up the president’s health issues.
“There are example after example after example, leading Democrats and noteworthy Democrats on the Hill who have not been in the dark about this. They’ve been saying things I think most of them understand is simply not true, and they’ve misled the American people,” Johnson said. “There’s a time to every purpose under heaven. Desperate times call for desperate measures. I think the 25th Amendment is appropriate here.”
Johnson’s remarks come ahead of a closed-door meeting of House Democrats, who have remained largely supportive of Biden despite party divisions on his reelection.
