HVCC faculty union sues over safety report
The union that represents around 300 faculty members at Hudson Valley Community College is suing the school over campus safety.
The lawsuit states that the community college hired an outside security firm to conduct a safety assessment review last summer. The HVCC Faculty Association Union asked for the report, but was denied. They even filed a Freedom of Information Law request but was denied.
Now they have filed a lawsuit to obtain a copy.
Concerns over safety have been raised after a man was accused of stabbing his then-girlfriend in the HVCC parking lot in broad daylight.
In response to the union’s lawsuit, HVCC says the report “identifies potential vulnerabilities which, if disclosed to the public, could threaten the safety of students, faculty, staff and visitors.
