Johnstown apartment searched in connection with woman missing since 2008
Johnstown, N.Y. (WNYT) – Johnstown and New York State Police took about an hour to do a search at 310 West Main Street. It’s an apartment building where police say a person of interest used to live at the time of Kellisue Ackernecht’s disappearance. He does not live here now.
Crews including cadaver dogs and forensics teams were searching the outside of the building, and inside in the common areas, including the basement.
Kellisue was last seen September 30, 2008, as she was leaving work at the Rite Aid in Amsterdam.
The next day, October first, her car was in flames in an area known as Frog Hollow.
Police believe the man who lived at the West Main Street apartment at the time worked with Kellisue’s father-in-law at a business in Mayfield.
“His name and number are on the phone records from the day before and the day she went missing, so we’re just trying to get some answers and get to the truth so that the daughter has answers,” said Johnstown Police Chief David Gilbo.
That daughter is Ashley, who was a little girl when she lost her mother so many years ago.
Despite the length of time, tips continue to come in for the cold case.
“So that’s why we try to ask people if they have any information at all, call or send an email or call the tip line that’s anonymous. Whatever you want to do,” said Chief Gilbo. “If you give us the information, we’re going to follow up on it.”
Kellisue’s daughter Ashley has been courageous in working to keep the leads coming in by talking about her mother.
She said after this recent search that she has 100% full support behind Chief Gilbo and what he’s doing, and she really hopes they find an answer.
