July 4th celebrations kick off early across the Capital Region
SCHENECTADY, N.Y. (WNYT) – July 4th celebrations kicked off early on Wednesday across the capital region in both Amsterdam and Schenectady. In Schenectady, the festivities took place at the Mabee Farm Historic Site in Rotterdam Junction.
Hundreds of people gathered to celebrate at the farm to listen to live music from Local 11 and watch the fireworks.
Michael Corcoran said it’s so much more peaceful celebrating the holiday a day before.
“We saw a social media post, and we said fighting the crowds on the fourth is insane. And we can’t get near the fireworks. And we’re supposed to be right underneath them tonight,” said Corcoran.
For Tiffany Estrada, Wednesday night was a special moment for her.
“And this is actually where we got married five years ago, so when we saw that something was going on, we’re like, oh, we should go over and check it out,” said Estrada.
On Wednesday, there were also local crafters and food vendors set up at the farm as well as rock climbing and farm animals to entertain kids.
