Lake George Central School District unveils new logo, mascot
The Lake George Central School District has unveiled its new logo and mascot as part of the district’s rebranding as “The Lakers.”
The new mascot will be known as “Georgie,” which is Lake George’s own version of the Loch Ness monster. Local legend has sightings that date back to 1904. The elementary school once had a mascot with the same name.
There is also a revamped “LG” logo with Adirondack Region flavor.
Nine students and members of the administration began meeting in January to share ideas on a new mascot. The district’s teams were formerly known as the Warriors.
School districts across the state have been phasing out Native-themed mascots and logos to comply with a directive from the State Education Department.
“We are excited to introduce Georgie as our official mascot along with our refreshed brand. Georgie is a part of our history, and embodies the strength of our students,” said Superintendent John Luthringer in a statement. “I am so proud of the collaborative effort and creativity of our student body, and we believe Georgie will become a symbol within our school and the greater community.”
