Latham Trustco Bank robbed, suspect caught

A suspect is in custody after an armed robbery at the Trustco Bank in Latham on Wednesday.

It happened around 4 p.m. at the bank on 1 Johnson Road. The suspect handed a note to the teller, displayed what appeared to be a gun and demanded money. He left with the money, according to Colonie Police.

The department’s K-9 Eddie and police officers from the Colonie, Green Island and State Police assisted in the search, Deputy Chief Robert Winn said.

“It was a pretty big area that we had him pinned down in the neighborhood behind the bank,” he said.

He was found in the area of the water tower off Miller Road, Winn said.

“It’s a pretty good distance from where the bank was,” he said.

Police will be releasing additional information later on Wednesday.
