Bill proposes free college tuition for New York state firefighters
A new bill in the New York State Assembly proposes tuition-free college for volunteer firefighters.
Introduced by Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara, his goal to get more people interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter.
The number of new recruits has dropped recently, which Santabarbara says is a threat to public safety.
The bill would waive the tuition at SUNY, CUNY, and community colleges in New York state for volunteers who serve for a minimum of five years.
