Dr. Matthew Shaftel has been named the 11th president of Russell Sage College. The college has campuses in Troy and Albany.

Shaftel has been a higher education leader for nearly 20 years. He was vice president at Florida State University and dean and executive of the Princeton campus at Rider University. He spent the last seven years as dean and full professor in Ohio University’s College of Fine Arts.

He’ll take over for retiring President Christopher Ames.

Shaftel will start his new job on July 1.
