Local police sergeant loses home in fire
Seargent Kelly Arnold of the Coeymans Police Department lost her home in a large fire on Friday. Seargent Arnold lived in the home with her husband and three young children.
The call for the fire came in at 4:59 p.m. Friday for a large structure fire in Selkirk on River Road near the intersection of Clapper Road.
When crews arrived on the scene, the home was up in flames. NewsChannel 13 spoke with Selkirk Fire Department’s 1st Assistant Chief Daniel Wagoner who said firefighters were forced to take a defensive approach.
“I mean the structure already had flames coming out of, pretty much every window. So, it was a purely defensive attack, which means that we didn’t send any firefighters into the structure,” Wagoner said.
Firefighters said they had the fire contained in about 40 minutes. However, River Road was shut down for more than four hours Friday night, as firefighters worked to put out all of the flames.
