Longtime Malta speedway may be nearing final finish line

The 50-acre property just off Route 9, where drivers have been priming their engines since the 1960s, is now seen as prime real estate by the Five Corners Development Group. They want to convert the land into a multi-use mecca for retail and residential purposes.

If developers can gain Malta’s approval, they will be able to start carrying out part of Gov. Kathy Hochul’s initiative to create affordable housing in a community where it is desperately needed.

The project still has a bit of time before becoming reality. That means racing will continue at the speedway in 2024 and likely 2025.
