Lots of fun at Oktoberfest in Albany this weekend
ALBANY, N.Y. (WNYT) – Thousands of people gathered on Broadway in Albany Saturday afternoon lifting steins full of beer and celebrating fall.
Wolff’s Biergarten’s 14th Annual Oktoberfest was held from 11 a.m. till 6 p.m.
This event is so popular, that a portion of Broadway was shut down near Thacher Street for people to enjoy all the festivities the event had to offer.
Vendors and local businesses were present at the festival too, with lots of food and drink options available and something for everyone.
NewsChannel 13 spoke with Jillian Yardley who was at the festival having fun with her friends.
“It’s a great time for the whole bunch of people that come out. And we just love, there’s vendor’s there’s beer. Everyone’s having a great time. We love supporting local businesses. And look at this crowd, how could you not love it,” Yardley said.
Wolff’s Biergarten’s owner Sam Leamy said that Saturday’s event had exceeded their expectations.
“So the first 4,000 people that we give them a commemorative, Stein, and we ran out today, so the weathers beautiful. People have come out. The city of Albany has shown up,” Leamy said.
There was heavy security at the festival too with bouncers checking people IDs at the entrance and Albany Police on patrol throughout.
“We have city police as well, which we work with just to make sure everyone is safe. And of course, on this hot day, we want to make sure everyone’s hydrated and, not making a fool of himself,” Leamy said.
