Loud boom in Schenectady Tuesday morning from Tri-City Recycling, police say

Schenectady Police Lieutenant Macherone tells us that the loud boom many people heard Tuesday morning was due to a small cylinder bursting at Tri City Recycling, formerly known as Predels.

Macherone says it happened while they were sorting materials at the site.

Schenectady Fire Department responded to the scene, and there was no fire or injuries associated with the cylinder bursting.

Macherone added that police dispatch had received a call from a resident that heard the boom in the city’s downtown area around 8:30 a.m., saying it happened about 15 minutes prior to the phone call. A city employee said they also had heard the boom at the same time.

He says police were not needed at the scene and did not respond.
