The man accused of killing TJ Krider, an Elvis tribute artist, rejected a plea deal on Wednesday.

Ronald Rayher, 70, of Milton, is facing charges of second-degree manslaughter and tampering with physical evidence. He allegedly tied up Krider at a home in Milton. He is also accused of giving Krider chloroform multiple times.

Rayher also allegedly moved and hid personal effects from the scene of Krider’s death.

The plea deal would have been for 3 1/3 to 10 years in prison.

Special Victims Unit Bureau Chief Jen Buckley said that prosecutors made the offer on Monday. She told Judge Jim Murphy that Rayher’s attorney, Kevin O’Brien, could have more time to review it.

“We don’t need any additional time. We are rejecting the offer,” O’Brien told the judge.

The hearing lasted less than 5 minutes. Afterward, O’Brien said that his client maintains his innocence. His client didn’t do anything wrong. O’Brien said feels bad personally for Krider’s family, but he is going to do everything in his power to defend Rayher at trial.

“I think it’s going to show that this was a tragic accident and nothing else, but at the end of the day, Mr. Rayher is a 70-year-old man with an impeccable history. He’s been an upstanding member of the community, been a father, and a great person as far as I can know for most of his life,” O’Brien said.

“Unfortunately, he was involved in something that had a tragic outcome, it doesn’t mean he’s culpable for that outcome,” O’Brien said.

Rayher worked as a chiropractor and was still practicing part-time.

Judge Murphy set a deadline for Dec. 4 for defense motions and then the prosecution will have two weeks from that point to response to those motions and he will issue a decision.

The trial had initially been scheduled for February, but Murphy said that schedule is likely to change.

Krider was a popular Elvis tribute artist who also led tours of the popular Star Trek Original Series Set Tour in Ticonderoga. He also was popular at Six Flags Great Escape’s Halloween event Fright Fest.
