Man charged in fatal Albany dog attack sentenced in unrelated gun case

The man charged in connection with October’s deadly dog attack in Albany was back in court on Friday in two separate cases.

Omar Daniels, 44, is charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide and three counts of aggravated cruelty to animals.

James Provost, 60, was killed on Oct. 9 after he was attacked by as many as nine dogs in the rear yard of 594 Central Ave.

Daniels was assigned a new defense attorney because of some conflict with his current public defender.

He is due back in court on March 7 at 11 a.m.

Police have not said what Daniels’ connection is to the dogs. The attack happened next to where the owner lives.

In a separate unrelated case, Daniels was sentenced to 1 ½ to 3 years in prison on a criminal possession of a weapon. He is a second felony offender.
