Man convicted in fatal 2012 crash, facing new legal trouble
Dennis Drue, the man at the center of a tragic 2012 crash that claimed the lives of two Shenendehowa High School students, is once again facing legal consequences. Drue is scheduled to appear in Colonie Town Court today at 5 p.m. following a recent arrest.
Drue, who served nine years in prison for the crash that killed Chris Stewart and Deanna Rivers, was taken into custody last month after giving police a false name during a late-night encounter at The Crossings Park in Colonie. At the time of his arrest, Drue was on parole and had already received a warning last November for violating curfew.
He is currently charged with false personation and remains in custody. His attorney attempted to secure his release pending a parole violation hearing. Still, the request was denied by Schenectady Supreme Court Judge Paul Davenport, who cited a “substantial risk” that Drue would not appear in court.
A full parole hearing is scheduled for May and will determine whether Drue will be released from prison.
