Man killed in Schenectady daytime shooting

A daytime shooting in Schenectady Wednesday afternoon is now a homicide.

Schenectady Police responded to the area of 1807 Van Vranken Ave. just before 3:30 p.m. for a report of a man down outside.

The victim was in his early 20s and had a gunshot wound to the chest, police said. He was taken to Ellis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

His identity is not being released pending notification of next of kin.

Police said the shooting appears to be the result of some type of fight. Investigators are interviewing witnesses and revealing surveillance footage.
