The man who was shot by police after they said he fled from a traffic stop and displayed a shotgun is facing a long list of new charges.

State Police attempted to pull over Billy G. Cassell III on Route 9 in South Glens Falls just before 12:15 p.m. on Wednesday for an outstanding warrant. Cassell did not stop and crashed his truck in a house at the corner of Route 9 and Catherine Street, police said.

Cassell then allegedly refused to drop a 12-gauge shotgun. He raised it and police said a trooper shot him in the shoulder.

Cassell was taken to the hospital. He was released Wednesday evening and taken to the State Police station.

Cassell was charged with criminal possession of a weapon, menacing a police officer, unlawfully fleeing a police officer in a motor vehicle, criminal mischief and reckless endangerment. He was arraigned in Moreau Town Court and sent without bail to Saratoga County Jail.

Anthony J. Lebrun, 59, of Hudson Falls, was a passenger in the vehicle. He allegedly had a controlled substance. He was issued an appearance ticket and due in Moreau Town Court on May 21.

The trooper involved in the incident is currently on a voluntary leave.
