Man stabbed, suspect arrested in Schenectady
Police were called early Sunday morning for a fight and stabbing on the 200 block of South Brandywine Avenue, right next to a Speedway gas station.
Police said at about 1:09 a.m., they found a man with a stab wound to his chest. Authorities say his injuries are serious and he was taken to Albany Medical Center, where he is believed to be in stable condition.
NewsChannel 13 spoke with Schenectady Police Department Lieutenant Pete Montalto on the incident.
“He was stabbed in the chest which is, obviously any stab wound to the chest is very serious,” said Montalto. “Albany Medical Center was able to stabilize the victim and he is now in stable condition.”
Police quickly located and arrested a suspect, 27-year-old Marcus Jeffress of Schenectady.
He was charged with assault in the first degree and is being held at the Schenectady County Jail for arraignment.
One neighbor telling NewsChannel 13 that he is not surprised as this area is prone to violence and said something needs to be done about it.
