Man suspected of stealing property seriously injured in motor vehicle accident shortly afterwards in Manchester, VT

Manchester Police say a man is seriously injured from a motor vehicle accident involving a car and a bicycle in the area of Main Street and Bank Run Road on Friday.

This followed after officers were dispatched to a report of a male trespassing and taking property that did not belong to them at 2212 Main Street around 2:12 p.m.

While police were en route to respond to the initial report, they received multiple 911 calls about a serious accident involving a car and a bicycle.

After initial investigation, it was determined that Timothy J. Green, 30, was the individual seriously injured in the accident as he was fleeing the area on his bicycle from trespassing and stealing property at 2212 Main Street.

Upon arrival to the scene of the accident, officers located Green lying unconscious in the roadway with severe traumatic injuries. Green was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire, said Manchester Police.

Authorities say Green was unable to avoid an oncoming vehicle that had come to a stop in attempt to avoid him, and it resulted in a head-on collision.

Green is listed in critical condition, said police.

Further investigation by officials revealed Green is suspected of taking property that was not his and shortly after fleeing the area southbound on Main Street by bicycle.

Police tell us multiple witnesses recalled seeing Green traveling south in the northbound lane on Main Street.

Officials say the investigation is ongoing, and they are requesting any additional witnesses to come forward. They ask if you have any information to contact their department at 802-362-2121.

Manchester Police say they were assisted at the scene by Bennington County Sheriff’s Office. Manchester Fire, Northshire Rescue Squad, and Liftnet Air Medical.
