Man that killed two high school students in crash admits to parole violations
The man who went to prison for killing two high school students in a crash admitted on Wednesday to violating his parole, after he was arrested by Colonie Police in March.
Dennis Drue had been charged with false personation after police said he gave a fake name to an officer who found him in the park after hours.
The charge was dismissed last week after his attorney pointed out that Drue eventually gave his real name after the officer gave him one more chance.
A hearing was held at the Schenectady County Jail.
His parole is not going to be revoked and Drue is set to be released from Schenectady County Jail on Thursday. Because Drue has been in jail since his arrest, that was deemed as sufficient punishment for the violations.
Drue did not speak at the hearing.
In 2012, Drue was driving recklessly and under the influence of drugs and alcohol when he slammed into the back of an SUV on the Northway, killing two Shenendehowa High School students, Deanna Rivers and Chris Stewart, and injuring two others. Drue served 9 years in prison.
Chris’s father, Michael Stewart, spoke in the courtroom during the hearing. The family members were hoping that Drue’s parole would be revoked and he would be sent back to prison.
NewsChannel 13’s Dan Levy was at the hearing and spoke with family members of the victims. Here their reaction:
