The man convicted of killing an 8-year-old girl and injuring her mother in a boat crash on Lake George is out of prison.

NewsChannel 13’s Mark Mulholland learned from the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision that Alex West was released from prison. He had been serving 5 to 15 years.

NewsChannel 13 reported last year he was granted parole by a vote of 2 to 1.

West was convicted in 2017 of manslaughter for running his boat over the top of boat Charlotte McCue and her family were riding in in 2016. McCue was killed. Her mom was critically injured. Five other family members in the boat were not hurt.

An investigation found West had been drinking and doing drugs before the boat crash and failed to call 911. His boat stalled. He then started it back up and fled the scene.

The death ended Log Bay Day in Lake George, where young boaters would tie their boats together and party.
