Shoppers at Walmart in Wilton were startled this weekend when they saw several police officers with their guns drawn in the parking lot.

The Saratoga County sheriff said they got a call Saturday morning that a man from Ulster County was armed and dangerous and believed to be in the Wilton area.

They tracked him to Walmart, where they found an assault-type gun in his truck. While he was in the store, they broke a truck window, took the gun and later picked up the man at the nearby Lowe’s.

The sheriff said his deputies did a great job protecting the several hundred people who were shopping Saturday morning.
