Massachusetts bans throwing away mattresses, clothing in trash
Massachusetts is banning throwing away old mattresses or old clothing in the trash. The state Department of Environmental Protection says this is to boost recycling and reduce waste in landfills.
The new statewide disposal ban going into effect is for mattresses and textiles. That clothing, towels, bedding along with other items.
The city of Pittsfield is providing an alternative. It’s partnering with Tough Stuff Recycling. For $55, they’ll come to you, providing curbside pickup, so you can get rid of that old mattress.
