Media program training the next generation of young filmmakers

If you’ve ever wondered how to nurture a young person’s desire to create movies and be a star, there’s a place in Albany called YouthFX that can help.

YouthFX Has trained more than 650 young people on how to be cinematographers, actors, directors, and more. They welcome kids, teens, and young adults from various backgrounds and situations. Many come from neighborhoods where some might feel their futures and possibilities are limited.

The students regularly work together to create movies, and multimedia projects that bring their ideas, passions and themselves to life on the big screen.

“Through going through this program and meeting with people that I meet, I’ve got friends I’ll probably have for my whole life, and I have a community here that I can always fall back on,” YouthFX Intern Kercel Montes said. â€śThat’s important, especially for kids who may not have that right now.”

Space for YouthFX programs is limited, but the cost is often free.

The YouthFX staff and students are always working on new projects. Here’s a chance for you and your kids to see some of it yourself. Next Tuesday, April 29, they’re hosting the world premiere of their newest short films made in the Capital Region.

The event starts at 7 p.m. at the Spectrum 8 Theatre in Albany.
