Monarch will be Maria College’s new mascot
Maria College in Albany celebrated 65 years as a college and has announced a mascot for the first time. They will now be the Maria Monarchs.
More than 500 faculty, staff, students and alumni voted. The monarch won 37% of the first place vote.
The president of the college said when choosing a mascot, they thought about themes of transformation and change.
The college doesn’t have sports, but the hope is for the mascot to pay visits to children in hospitals, and to attend events at the school.
