More Capital Region drug ring suspects go before judge
More suspects charged in a huge Capital Region drug bust went before a judge on Wednesday.
A total of 21 people were arrested in connection with a major ring that was selling cocaine and fentanyl throughout the Capital Region. The drugs were brought up from Brooklyn and distributed to Rensselaer, Albany, Saratoga, Warren, and Washington counties.
Around half of the defendants were picked up Tuesday and more are expected in court later this week.
The operation seized just under 10 pounds of cocaine, the New York State Attorney General’s Office said.
The alleged ringleaders were Heather Thompson, 38, of Troy, and Jermaine Moreno, 48, of Brooklyn. Moreno would allegedly drove kilos of cocaine from New York City to sell to Thompson.
Thompson and Moreno have been charged with operating as a major trafficker, which carries a mandatory life sentence in state prison.
