Motor Oil Coffee closes Madison Avenue site
Motor Oil Coffee has permanently closed its location in Albany’s Pine Hills neighborhood.
The coffee company suspended service at each of its Albany cafes – on State Street, Slip Street and Madison Avenue – in June to reevaluate its business operations.
It reopened the State Street and Slip 12 locations and hoped to open Madison Avenue in time for the Upper Madison Street Fair. However, their landlord informed the owners that they were going to lease the space to another establishment.
Motor Oil Coffee had renegotiated its contract last fall from a three-year lease to a month-to-month agreement. That reduced the rate but also granted the owner the ability to market the space to a new business.
The neighborhood has been through some turmoil. The CVS closed in January and the College of Saint Rose has shut down. The Madison Theatre in that area is also closed.
Motor Oil Coffee encouraged customers to visit their other locations.
