ONLY ON 13: New details paint grimmer picture in disturbing, deadly Rotterdam neglect case
ROTTERDAM – The alleged events taking place inside a home on Greenpoint Avenue in Rotterdam over the last couple of years have gone from creepy to criminal. Now, according to authorities, the criminality has become even more disturbing.
The blatant signs of neglect that are visible outside the infamous home were apparently well hidden on the inside.
According to authorities, Skylar Pettit, 24, died of natural causes inside her home sometime in April 2023. Her body was wrapped in plastic and left on her bed for months while her mother, Amber Geier, and Geier’s boyfriend, Rickey Loika allegedly pocketed $5,000 of Skylar’s disability benefits.
Skylar had Down syndrome and was diabetic. Geier, according to authorities, stopped purchasing insulin and allowed Pettit to waste away and die.
Geier is currently awaiting trial on criminally negligent homicide and manslaughter charges.
Rickey Loika, who up until Monday night had been living at the same neglected property, still faces charges that he concealed a human corpse and hindered prosecution. He has been re-arrested by sheriff’s deputies and charged with endangering the welfare of a child, forcible touching, and sexual abuse. Those are all are misdemeanors.
Sources tell News Channel 13 Pettit is not the victim of those alleged crimes.
Loika was sent to the Schenectady County Jail on $10,000 bail.
