New Hampshire man charged in two Bennington rapes

A New Hampshire man has been charged in connection with two rapes in Bennington last September.

James A. Gathright Jr., 56, of Manchester, sexually assaulted a woman on Northside Drive in Bennington and an underage girl days later on the rail trail near Northside Drive, Vermont State Police said.

U.S. Marshals arrested him June 10 in his hometown of Manchester.

He’s charged with aggravated sexual assault and sexual assault. He is awaiting extradition to Vermont.
